What's on my Design Wall

This quilt, I am going to finish this week. I am in the process of putting on borders and then will make a pieced back.
I named this quilt, "Just a Log Cabin." I was working on it, at the shop, and someone said to me something about the quilt, and I said, "it's just a log cabin." I thought, that is a great title, so thus, it is "Just a Log Cabin."
As most people who know me and my quilting, I like lots of color and I like lots of pieces. In the center there is 1872 pieces. The outside border has 22 log cabins in it. I designed the quilt and will make a pattern for it when I am finished.
Hopefully I can post it finished soon.

Sharie's News

There is not a lot new here. The weather 72 degrees at 7:25 a.m. We have had rain on and off this week. It is typical for southern Louisiana this time of year. The forcast is for night time temps to be in the 60's this following week. Fall is around the corner. I am so looking forward to it and hopefully we will be hurricane free. So far, so good. Jim has been busy doing volunteer work for the USS Orleck. It is a ship that is going to be anchored in the lake. It is going to be used for a tourist attraction and etc. I took a quilt in to the quilter to be quilted yesterday. I was in luck, one of my quilting buddies was in the shop so we put our heads together and decided how it should be quilted. Today, I am off to a quilt shop sale with a friend. We will go to lunch probably at Joe's Pizza Place (or what ever it is called). They really do have good Italian food. It is hard to go to the quilt shop without going to lunch at Joe's. As I said nothing exciting going on here. Hope all is well on your end. Sharie

All the machine embroidery on this quilt is gorgeous. I have managed to get 5 blocks(embroidery) finished. You have to place templates and then embroidery around them. It is a nice technique and easier to do then I thought before I started. This is a block of the month (6 months). Another quilter and I are each making one and our goal is to be finished shortly after we receive our final kit. I am behind already, but hope to catch up by the end of September.

What's on my Design Wall...........

Machine embroidered teapots - when I am finished there will be 20 teapots. Aren't they cute? I am making the teapots to match fabric I have to complete the block.

SHARIE'S NEWS - UPDATE

I went to Beaumont today. I am glad that I did not miss the program. It was super. Karen Stone has a lot of energy and her quilts are fantastic. It makes me want to sit down and make New York Beauty's. I would if I didn't have so many other things in the fire. We stopped at the local shops in Beaumont and Nederland after we left the guild meeting. I found several spools of Bottom Line thread and some lovely fabric (as if I needed it). It was on sale. I cannot resist a sale. We had almost three inches of rain while I was gone. The creek, as you enter the subdivision, was over flowing. The rain must have come down hard and fast. Hope all is well on your end. Sharie

SHARIE'S NEWS

Yesterday, one of my quilting friends and I went to see Julie and Julia. It was a great movie. Meryl Streep was wonderful as Julia. Go see it, you will love it. Not much new here. The weather is still hot. We have had thunderstorms rolling through off and on for a few days. Fall is just around the corner and I am so looking forward to it. Not much new on the quilting front. I have been trying to get some machine embroidery done. I was at Target a couple of days ago and bought a sponge rug to put under my machine. Sometimes when I embroidery the machine runs so fast it vibrates terribly. The rug has made a big difference. The hairy beast (Yethi) - I am trying to get her combed out so she can get a groom. What a job. I am getting it done slow but sure. It would be easier if Yethi would cooperate. We have to do it small increments. When she has had enough, she gets up and moves. Since she weighs 100 pounds there is not a lot I can do about it. I was going to Beaumont today with three other women. It is guild day. Karen Stone is the guest and will do a program. At the moment, I don't think I can go. I am having a bigggg problem with my ear. It is very noisy and I can't hear out of it. It also makes me off balance. I have a feeling I will be going to the dr. instead of to the guild meeting. I have waited all year to see this program and I hate to miss it, but I guess my ear is more important at the moment. Have a good day. Sharie

What's on my Design Wall

This is a fun paper-pieced project. I designed this block where a charm square fits perfectly in the center without hardly any trimming. I have been working on this every week now for awhile. It is my Tuesday project. At that rate it will take me awhile to finish it. I am anxious to get to the borders. I am going to try something a little different. We will see how that works out. Gabrielle's Bag

When I was in Washington visiting my son and family, my 11 year old granddaughter wanted me to help her make a bag. Time was short and I didn't get it done, so I brought a pattern home and made it for her. I made a few changes to the pattern (surprise, surprise). Instead of using fusible interfacing, I used Dream batting. It didn't call for quilting, I added a little. The pattern called for cardboard in the bottom. I left that out giving the bag a nice soft feel to it.
The fabric for the bag is available at The Quilt Shoppe in Westlake, LA.
